St Francis Church

St Francis Church is a unique building, having previously been a barn. It has a thatched roof, which is periodically replaced. The origin of the building has many different explanations, one that it was moved to the site from elsewhere. It is more likely to have been a barn of Grooms Farm, which was on the same site and gave rise to the name of the road, Grooms Lane. This is borne out by an Ordnance Survey map for 1924, which shows a building in the position of the current Church.
